With a perfume like orange blossoms, the old fashioned Philadelphus is one of the loveliest shrubs in a spring garden. Simple white flowers appear in clusters on long arching stems. Best suited to a sunny sheltered position, it responds well to pruning once the main flush of flowers have passed. Cut all the flower shoots back to old wood. You may even be rewarded with a second flowering. Plant near patios and entrances where the early spring flowers will brighten up the garden and perfume the air.
